On Thursday, April 21, Western’s Sexual Violence Student Advisory Committee put on their annual Slut Walk as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). From their email release: “The SLUT Walk is designed to break down stereotypes about sexual violence and foster a safe and inclusive environment in which we can all dress as we feel comfortable without fear of judgement and violence. This is an inclusive space that will celebrate diverse bodies and experiences.”

“The idea is to take back the night, which is why we host it near sunset during a time when people start to become uncomfortable being outside alone, [become] uncomfortable wearing clothes that might be conceived more revealing, a little more “slutty,” says Katy Kellogg, pictured below.

“So, it is intended to be an empowerment event where people can wear whatever makes them feel beautiful, confident, sexy, and most importantly feel safe among good peers. Dressing revealing is not a requirement which is why we say to come wearing what makes you feel beautiful and confident. [This event] is also in hopes to contest victim blaming and to state that it doesn’t matter what you wear,” she adds.
